Carnival at Night

Almost a decade ago was the last time that I was on top of a ferris wheel. Since my kids are at sleep-away camp right now, I'm feeling a bit nostalgic about the ole' days when they were little and we'd ride the ferris wheel. I dusted off this photograph and it struck me as a beautiful night time scene. I've given it a new lease on life with painted tonalities. I really like the finished look.

Flatirons - Boulder, Colorado

Here's a selenium toned black and white fine art photograph of Boulder's iconic rock formations, The Flatirons. Did you know that The Flatirons were named by pioneer women after the flat, metal irons used to press their clothes? Images of the numbered Flatirons on Green Mountain are a ubiquitous symbol of the city of Boulder.

A Few More Gems from Maine

I'm feeling in inspired by black and whites these days and wanted to share a few more fine art gems from Maine last weekend.

The Algarve Coastline, Portugal

The Algarve coast line stretches about 100 miles from the western-most tip to the Spanish border, and as well as being most well known for its expansive and extensive beaches of fine golden sands, you will also find some of the most dramatic cliff faces and rock-formations in the world.

The western end which juts out into the Atlantic is a rugged, undeveloped area, which has retained its natural charm, and is extremely dramatic, with cliffs of black rock from which Algarvian fishermen cling precariously hundreds of feet above the sea, for hours on end.

I had the incredible opportunity to explore the coast with my camera around sunset and captured some really beautiful images that are some of my own personal favorites. I went back to the source files and redeveloped them with my new black and white tools and have essentially created some fine art gems. Contact me if you are interested in having some of these mounted/framed or printed on metal for your home.

The London Eye & Big Ben

Here's a very cool shot I took at the peak of the apex on the London Eye - overlooking the Thames River. I applied a very cool black and white conversion process to give this a high contrast HDR look.

Streets of Rome at Sunset

photograph of a street in Rome in HDR photography by top New York Photographer Michael Jurick

I dusted off this image taken while in Rome a few years ago. I breathed new life into the photograph by infusing it with a little MJ secret sauce - enabling it to really shimmer in the late afternoon light. Look how the shadows are cast across the sides of the buildings's shutters. I'm really enjoying the process of going back through my archives to pick out special images that can be digitally painted with a fresh perspective.

Chevrolet

Here's a gem I dug up from last summer that hadn't made the blog yet. While visiting the kids at camp in Maine, we came upon this vintage Chevy that screamed, "take a picture of me!"

Arizona Sunsets

Spent a few days in Scottsdale, Arizona last week and captured some beautiful sunsets (and cloud structures). We took the kids mountain biking and hiking in the desert and will share those photos later. Hope these bring a smile to your face...

This was taken about 40 minutes before the clouds clear away and revealed the beautiful sunsets you see above. I LOVE this shot!

Not a sunset, but a great cloud structure deep in the Sonoran desert.

Image of the Day - A Dream in Black and White

Here's a cool dream-like image captured during one of my Fall shoots with one of my favorite subjects, Emily Medvin. We were in Carl Shurz Park, Emily had a bunch of colored balloons and I had a blast photographing the Emily with the balloons in different areas of the park. I added a nice little magic to this image to make it unique. Tomorrow, I'll post the colored version and a few others from that shoot.

Black & White Beauty

Every once in a while, I step out of the color saturated world and into the world of black and white and truly appreciate how timeless the images are. Here's a nice example of what I'm talking about.
